People who are working in sales already know why they need to learn how to sell.
But if you are not in sales, you definitely need to learn how to sell right now.
I’ll explain why.
Before I start, I know what you are thinking. You are imagining a picture of a salesperson making cold colds or the ones you see at your local mall.
Please please please erase that picture from your head.
The truth is…
Learning how to sell is not only for salespeople or entrepreneur. It’s actually for everyone. You would need to sell all the time — your work life, your love life, parenting life, your business life.
It’s a part of life and we do it every day.
We sell our friends on trying that new restaurant that serves an incredible burger.
We sell the idea of good manners to our young children.
We are extra motivated to sell ourselves to a girl/boy we like.
We need to sell ourselves in an important job interview.
And the list goes on…

1. Selling helps you grow as a person
To understand this, you need to imagine yourself in a situation where you are forced to sell something. Do it right now. I bet it’s not going to be easy for you. In fact, you need to go beyond your comfort zone. You would feel that struggle against an invisible force hovering within you.
That force is fear.
The fear of rejection, the fear of failure, or whatever your worst fear is. We all have something we are fearful about. Overcoming your fears comes with selling. Take it as a personal growth journey. Additionally, you would also learn how to negotiate, close a sale, being persistence, and self-discipline.
2. If you don’t sell, you don’t make money
Every business depends on how well their sales funnels are. Even those high-growth tech companies which make zero revenue are at the mercy of their investors to keep pumping money in. The speed at which your business grows is dependant on your ability to sell.
We also sell to our customers to increase loyalty and trust. Activities such as brand building increase repeated sales for the long term.
3. If you don’t sell, you can’t tell people what you have
It doesn’t matter if you have the best ideas, products or services in the world if people don’t know about them. Success is almost impossible without telling people how good you are. Let’s run some scenarios.
Let’s imagine you invented a new kind of ice-cream made from plants and it’s super delicious. But, if your sales skills are bad… people won’t know it ever existed.
Another example, you recently started a freelance side hustle in web design. Chances are, you are competing with hundreds of web design firms. Customers don’t care about your web design skills that much. Usually, they buy from that one company that made the best case of themselves compared to their competitors.
